NEW DELHI: The country’s first MTech programme in Defense Technology has been offered by Amity University. The MTech in Defence Technology programme was jointly developed by the DRDO and the AICTE with the goal of developing a talent pool of human resources for the defence sector. India is working to increase its defence technology self-reliance, which includes missiles, fighter jets, drones, naval systems, combat vehicles, radars, sonars, higher energy materials, and directed energy systems, among other things. Aside from R&D, the introduction of two separate corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu is giving manufacturing in the defence sector a boost.
A number of multinational corporations are developing R&D and production operations in the defence sector. The Hon’ble Prime Minister’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ Defence Sector Mission would necessitate a huge pool of highly trained and brilliant Engineers and Technologists. MTech in defence technology will aid in addressing the rapidly increasing demand in the defence industry.
This programme is designed so that post-graduates will have the theoretical knowledge, practitioner skills, and aptitude in various defence technologies areas to perform research, design and development, production, life cycle equipment maintenance, entrepreneurial (start-up defence), advisory, and consultative roles in defence. Additionally, the increased offering is intended to fulfil market demand for technical and engineering leadership expertise.
Combat Vehicle Engineering, Aerospace Technology, Communication Systems & Sensors, High Energy Materials Technology, Naval Technology, and Directed Energy Technology will be the focus of Amity University’s MTech in military technology, with the option of individual concentration.
This programme will also give a significant chance for small and big projects to be carried out at DRDO laboratories, defence PSUs, and private businesses in order to prepare job-ready military technology experts. “This course is meant for students who have successfully completed B.Tech in Engineering & Technology domain and may be looking for the next future course of action to choose the Master’s programme that will shape up their career path,” says W Selvamurthy, President of Amity Science, Technology & Innovation Foundation (ASTIF).
He went on to say that the course’s offerings include a new unique programme to encourage multidisciplinary education and research-courses suited to the defence industry’s current and future demands. Amity has significant links to the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), defence companies (both public and commercial), and national and international cooperation with prestigious institutions across the world. Amity is in a strong position to provide the needed human resource talent in the defence industry.
