Gandhi Jayanti 2021: The 152nd birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi will be celebrated on October 2, 2021.
On the 152nd anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth, the country will pay tribute to the “Father of the Nation” on Saturday, October 2, 2021.
The 91st anniversary of a key event in Gandhi’s life, the Dandi March, coincides this year with the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which was started on March 12 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 91st anniversary of Gandhi’s birth.
The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav will be held till August 15, 2023, the 77th anniversary of India’s independence.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porabandar, Gujarat, and shares his birthday with another renowned figure, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri (born 1904).
Gandhi, a lawyer whose life was altered by his experiences in South Africa, was the most important figure in India’s independence struggle, leading nonviolent marches.
Though it is widely assumed that Gandhi received the label “Mahatma” from India’s first Nobel laureate, “Gurudev” Rabindranath Tagore, the Gujarat government disputes this, stating that the title was conferred on him by a local journalist from Saurashtra.
The leader is also known as “Bapu” in some circles (father).
Gandhi is the most often mentioned Indian personality by international leaders, the majority of whom pay a visit to his burial site in Delhi during their tour to India.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Modi at the White House last week, US President Joe Biden cited the independence warrior.
The International Day of Nonviolence is held on October 2 in honour of the “Mahatma.”
It is a national holiday in India, and one of three national holidays, along with Republic Day (January 26) and Independence Day (August 15).
