World Food Day 2021: On October 16, the world commemorates World Food Day. It is a project of the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). This global event commemorates a day when people all over the world come together to raise awareness and take action to end hunger and guarantee that everyone has access to healthy food.
The FAO, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the World Food Programme will lead the World Food Day commemorations this year (WFP). According to the United Nations, events will be held in 150 countries throughout the world with different partners and governments.
The theme this year is “Safe food now for a healthy tomorrow”.
On World Food Day 2021, the heads of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) warned that the world is facing an exponential increase in hunger due to the climate crisis and biodiversity loss, and that urgent responses are needed to protect food and nutrition security, as well as livelihoods, especially of marginalised communities. Every year on October 16th, World Food Day commemorates the creation of the FAO in 1945.
History of World Food Day
Dr. Pal Romany, the former Hungarian minister of agriculture and food, proposed the creation of World Food Day in November 1979. It evolved into a means of bringing attention to hunger, malnutrition, sustainability, and food production.
Significance of World Food Day

Theme of World Food Day 2021
This year’s World Food Day is focused on honouring food heroes, or individuals who have contributed to the creation of a sustainable world in which no one goes hungry. The goal is to contribute to the goal of a world without hunger.
The theme for World Food Day in 2020 was, “Grow, nurture, and keep going. Together. Our deeds determine our destiny.” This was selected in light of the millions of people who died as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
