Adityanath said that with the establishment of AIIMS in Gorakhpur, medical colleges have started in Kushinagar, Deoria, Basti, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Bahraich, Sultanpur, Ambedkarnagar, Ayodhya, Pratapgarh.
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, stated on Friday that the state is strengthening medical education because 17 new medical schools have opened this year and the number of MBBS seats has doubled. He emphasized the noteworthy changes in Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare system, pointing out that the esteemed AIIMS Gorakhpur now faces fierce competition from the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, which was formerly referred to as a “bimaar” (sick) state.
Speaking to an audience at the KMC Medical College (PPP) opening ceremony in Maharajganj district, he stated that although the state did not have enough money for salaries when he assumed office in 2017, tremendous strides had been made thanks to cooperation and group support. According to the chief minister, 5.14 crore impoverished people in Uttar Pradesh have been granted the Ayushman Bharat Yojana golden card thus far.
According to Adityanath, medical institutions have opened in Kushinagar, Deoria, Basti, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Bahraich, Sultanpur, Ambedkarnagar, Ayodhya, and Pratapgarh since the founding of AIIMS in Gorakhpur. There used to be just 18 medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, but now there are 64 districts with healthcare facilities, he said. Adityanath stated that a new policy will be implemented for the establishment of medical colleges in the remaining 6-7 districts.
‘One district, one medical college’ vision
“We will fulfil the resolution of ‘One District, One Medical College’.” Accusing the previous governments of “neglecting” and “overlooking” the Terai districts of the state, the chief minister asserted that today Maharajganj district is “no longer sidelined”. Adityanath said, “Since independence, the Terai districts have faced continuous neglect, often overlooked by previous governments. Today, however, Maharajganj is no longer sidelined, as the district has received development projects valued at Rs 940 crore, representing a major stride forward.” Earlier, the condition of government facilities was very bad.
The roads were poor, and there was no electricity. “Diseases like encephalitis used to engulf the youth here due to drinking water pollution, sugar mills kept closing, and there was the terror of malaria,” he said. But in the eastern region, encephalitis has been eradicated for good today. No innocent person dies now. Maharajganj is not overlooked today,” he stated.
Focus on connectivity and healthcare workforce development
“Ensuring good connectivity to these new medical colleges is a top priority for the government. Additionally, nursing and paramedical colleges are being developed across the state to strengthen the healthcare workforce,” the CM said. He also said under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is becoming the economic power of the world. PM Modi has made India the fifth largest economy of the world. This speed of development shows that India will be the third largest economy in the world in the next three years, he said.
