International Management Institute (IMI), New Delhi, has launched its Sustainability and Social Impact (SSI) Programme, an initiative aimed at empowering students to engage with communities and address critical societal challenges. This program emphasizes sustainability and social responsibility as central components of a well-rounded management education.
About the IMI Delhi Sustainability and Social Impact Programme
The SSI Programme introduces students to the practical aspects of social impact through immersive experiences in three core areas: Primary Education, Rural Development, and Empowerment of the Underprivileged. Partnering with Municipal Corporation of Delhi primary schools, NGOs, and rural development efforts in villages under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan scheme, IMI New Delhi is offering students a unique opportunity to learn through real-world engagement.
Himadri Das, Director General of IMI New Delhi, highlighted the programme’s importance: “The SSI programme is a natural extension of IMI’s mission to nurture leaders who are not only skilled in business but also committed to creating positive societal change. By involving students in direct engagement with communities, we’re helping them become proactive agents of change.”
Core Pillars of the SSI Programme
The Sustainability and Social Impact Programme is structured around three fundamental pillars that serve as a foundation for student learning and community engagement:
1. Primary Education
IMI Delhi students work closely with Municipal Corporation of Delhi primary schools to improve educational outcomes. They assist in developing innovative teaching methods and supporting school initiatives, helping young students access a quality education and bridge educational gaps in under-resourced areas.
2. Rural Development
Through Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, the SSI programme has adopted villages where students collaborate on rural development projects. These initiatives include sustainable agricultural practices, infrastructure development, and economic empowerment activities that drive progress and build self-sufficiency in rural communities.
3. Empowerment of the Underprivileged
The SSI Programme also focuses on empowering underserved populations by working with various NGOs. Students engage in impactful projects that support social justice, economic empowerment, and skill-building activities, contributing to the upliftment of marginalized groups.
Experiential Learning and Leadership Development
The SSI Programme immerses students in experiential learning, allowing them to become well-rounded leaders who understand the importance of social impact. Sonu Goyal, Dean Academics at IMI New Delhi, remarked, “SSI broadens the curriculum to instill values, encouraging students to engage meaningfully with social and economic challenges.”
Priya Chaudhary, Chair of the SSI Programme, added, “SSI empowers students to become changemakers, demonstrating that even small contributions can lead to substantial community impact.” Through these hands-on roles, students gain valuable insights into how sustainable practices and social responsibility are vital to creating a positive impact on society.
