The student, who worked as a project assistant at a central research institute, allegedly died by suicide on December 25. Events Leading to the Tragedy

The victim’s mother filed a complaint at the Nacharam Police Station on December 26, detailing a chain of events that began with a financial transaction. Her father had borrowed ₹15 lakh from a family, promising to secure a job for one of their members at the research institute where he worked.

According to the complainant, the accused family claimed the deal was made in the presence of the victim, although her mother insisted she had no knowledge of the arrangement. When the father failed to secure the promised job, the family escalated the matter by filing a cheating case against him and the victim.

The family further demanded ₹35 lakh to withdraw the case and reportedly threatened to ruin their lives. The mounting humiliation and stress drove the victim to take the extreme step of ending her life by hanging herself at her residence.

Legal Actions and Developments

Following the complaint, a case was registered under the provisions of abetment to suicide and the SC/ST Act. Police have arrested three individuals, including two members of the accused family and the victim’s father.

A crucial piece of evidence is a selfie video purportedly recorded by the victim before her death, in which she stated:

“It is true my father took the money, but I was unaware of it. They are responsible for my death and should be punished. A fake FIR was filed against me.”

This video has added significant weight to the allegations against the accused.
