AICTE UG Minor Programme: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has introduced India’s first undergraduate minor programme in Quantum Technologies. Launched in collaboration with the National Quantum Mission (NQM), this innovative programme aims to prepare students for the quantum revolution by equipping them with cutting-edge skills. The UG Minor Programme in Quantum Technologies has been thoughtfully designed to address the core areas of the quantum landscape. These include:
- Quantum Computation and Simulation: Covering advanced computational techniques.
- Quantum Communication and Cryptography: Focusing on secure communication systems and encryption technologies.
- Quantum Sensing: Improving precision in detection and measurement.

Unique Features of the Programme
Flexible and Customizable Curriculum
Students can select 18 credits from a diverse pool of over 30 credits. This flexibility allows institutions to implement the programme according to their specific resources, ensuring adaptability and inclusivity.
Interdisciplinary Participation
The programme is open to students from all engineering disciplines, starting from the third or fourth semester. This inclusivity encourages broader participation, fostering a dynamic and collaborative learning environment.
Faculty Development Initiatives
AICTE, in collaboration with institutions like IITs and IISERs, will offer Faculty Development Programs (FDPs). These initiatives aim to train educators in quantum technologies, ensuring the effective delivery of complex concepts and maintaining high academic standards.

The programme was launched with the participation of distinguished leaders, including Prof. Sitharam T.G., AICTE Chairman, and Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of the Department of Science & Technology. During the launch, these experts underscored the transformative potential of quantum technologies in shaping India’s future.
