Amazon Work From Home Latest News: Amazon’s post-pandemic workspace plans have been updated, with CEO Andy Jassy telling employees that “there is no one-size-fits-all approach.”
Amazon will leave teams to come up with working models in a move that will affect office workers, including those in London’s Shoreditch HQ, which has capacity for about 5,000 people.
Jassy, who was promoted to lead the company earlier this year, said in a message to employees: “We’re going to be in a stage of experimenting, learning, and adjusting for a while as we emerge from this pandemic.”
Instead of specifying that people work three days a week in the office, he said that for corporate roles, a decision on days will be made team by team at the director level.
Jassy added: “We expect that there will be teams that continue working mostly remotely, others that will work some combination of remotely and in the office, and still others that will decide customers are best served having the team work mostly in the office.”
The company does not break down how many of its 45,000 UK employees work in offices, but it has offices in Manchester, London, and other parts of the country. The total number of employees will increase in accordance with previously announced expansion plans.
The online retailer’s expected to return to office date had previously been pushed back to early 2022.
At this point, Amazon wants the majority of its employees to be “close enough to their core team that they can easily travel to the office for a meeting on a day’s notice,” according to Jassy.
