Today, July 30, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the beginning of the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS 2.0), which would give graduates financial assistance and hands-on training. In addition to launching the portal, the minister also authorized the transfer of Rs 100 crore for this program. Within the next 100 days, stipends will be disbursed immediately through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
“Glad to launch NATS 2.0 Portal and release ₹100 crore as stipend through DBT. This is a significant effort to democratise apprenticeship, bridge skills gap, fulfil youth aspirations and make them future-ready,” Dharmendra Pradhan posted on X. AICTE Chairman TG Sitharam, NETF Chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe, and UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar were also present at the function.
With additional features and faster response times, the NATS 2.0 portal offers an enhanced user experience. Apprentices receive a stipend during the apprenticeship, with the Indian government repaid to the employer for half of the amount. Apprentices obtain a Certificate of Proficiency from the Government of India upon completion of the training period.
NATS scheme 2024 engagement
The NATS plan has employed 8.68 lakh apprentices during the previous five years, with 2.53 lakh apprentices taking part in the 2023–24 year, according to facts provided during the occasion. It is anticipated that around 75,000 new apprentices would be hired for the 2024–2025 school year. The industry partners that were recognized during the occasion included Cognizant Technology Solutions Pvt. Ltd., which hired 41,576 apprentices in the previous three years.

Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized the government’s commitment to developing a skilled labor force that can meet the demands of the changing labor market in his speech at the inaugural ceremony. “NATS 2.0 portal launched today will widen the reach of apprenticeship opportunities and help in matchmaking of candidates and employers. This technology-driven age is not only about attaining degrees but also building competencies. Our course curriculum should focus on increasing employability skills. This year’s budget also lays great emphasis on boosting skilling and employment,” he posted on his official X account.
K Sansay, the higher education department secretary, defended the DBT process at the inaugural event and pointed out that both technical and non-technical students gain from the program. He said, “We have included that part of the scheme since last year and we look forward to many of the companies offering training of apprentices in these segments of industry or business.”
