The Union Government has granted Tamil Nadu permission to admit 850 students to seven of the eleven new medical schools.
Re-inspection of the remaining four colleges is being sought.
This year, the Central Government has approved the admission of 850 students to seven of Tamil Nadu’s eleven new government medical institutions.
This academic year, the students will be enrolled in undergraduate courses. Ma Subramanian, the Minister of Health, announced this on Tuesday.
“All 11 colleges were inspected by the National Medical Commission. Minor flaws were found at the colleges in Dindigul, Krishnagiri, Nagapattinam, and Ariyalur by the inspection team.
They emphasised the need for more buildings by pointing out minor flaws. The work will be finished in ten days, following which we will request a re-inspection,” the health minister stated, according to Hindu sources.
According to sources, he added, “With all the works finished at the institutions at Virudhunagar, Kallakurichi, and Udhagamandalam, an intake of 150 students each was authorised.”
The inspection team has imposed requirements on the colleges at Namakkal, Tiruppur, Ramanathapuram, and Tiruvallur to carry out certain minor repairs.
These projects will be finished shortly. As a result, admission of 100 students to each of these colleges was authorised.
The government will seek a re-inspection of these four institutions after the faults were corrected, according to the report, in order to gain clearance for admission to the remaining seats.
