Delhi University To Extend Re-evaluation Option To Law Students

Delhi University (DU) is set to introduce a re-evaluation facility for its law students, marking a significant change in its academic policies. This option, previously unavailable to students in professional courses such as law, will be implemented in the next academic year.

Re-evaluation for Professional Courses: A New Step

The re-evaluation facility, already available for most undergraduate and postgraduate courses, will now extend to professional courses. DU officials have confirmed that law students will be the first to benefit, with plans to gradually include management and medicine programs as well.

Ensuring Fair Assessment

“This change will ensure that students in professional courses also have the option to seek re-evaluation if they feel their answers were not properly assessed,” a university official stated.

The Faculty of Law, with over 10,000 students, stands to gain the most from this decision. Officials believe this move will promote fairness and accountability in the evaluation process.

Existing Charges for Re-evaluation

Currently, DU charges the following fees for re-evaluation services:

  • Re-evaluation: ₹1,000 per paper.
  • Rechecking: ₹750 per paper, involving mark recounting without re-assessing the answers.
  • Obtaining Copies of Answer Sheets: ₹1,000 per paper.

These charges apply uniformly across all courses and are periodically revised as per university guidelines.

Positive Impacts of the Decision

Officials view this decision as a dual benefit for students and faculty:

  • Students: Gain a fair opportunity to challenge their evaluations.
  • Faculty: Encourages meticulousness in checking answer sheets.

“This move will help all students to apply for re-evaluation and ensure that teachers are more careful while checking answer sheets,” the official added.

Future Plans for Professional Courses

DU plans to release detailed guidelines specifically for law students in the coming months. The re-evaluation facility will subsequently expand to include students in management and medicine programs, aligning professional courses with existing practices for other academic disciplines.
