Engineers’ Day is observed in India on September 15th, the birthday of Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Sir M Visvesvaraya made important contributions to engineering and education.

He is regarded as one of India’s greatest nation-builders, having played a key role in the construction of dams, reservoirs, and hydropower projects.

As chief engineer, Sir M Visvesvaraya oversaw the building of numerous architectural marvels, including the Krishna Raja Sagar dam in Karnataka and the Hyderabad flood control system.

Engineers’ Day: History

Engineers’ Day was established by the Indian government in 1968, on the anniversary of Sir M Visvesvaraya’s birth.

Since then, this day has been observed to honour and recognise all engineers who have contributed to the development of a modern and developed India, as well as those who continue to do so.

Engineers’ Day: Significance

Sir M Visvesvaraya invented and patented automated water floodgates in 1903.

It featured automatic doors that closed in the case of a water overflow, and it was also known as Block System.

It was initially erected at the Pune reservoir Khadakvasla.

Sir M Visvesvaraya was born in 1861 in a small village near Chikkaballapur in Karnataka. He studied Bachelor of Arts at Madras University and civil engineering at Pune’s College of Science.

He founded the Government Engineering College in 1917, which is today known as the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering in Bengaluru.

Sir M Visvesvaraya As Role Model

Following a devastating storm in Hyderabad in 1908, the Nizam enlisted Sir M Visvesvaraya’s help in designing a drainage system to keep the city safe from flooding.

To minimise contamination of the Musi river, which runs through Hyderabad, the engineer recommended the building of storage reservoirs as well as a sewage farm outside of the city.

Sir M Visvesvaraya’s Awards

In 1955, Sir M Visvesvaraya was awarded the Bharat Ratna as well as a British knighthood. From 1912 until 1918, he was the Diwan of Mysore. The country pays homage to Sir M Visvesvaraya on Engineer’s Day.

Engineers are always honest in matters of technology and human relationships.
That’s why it’s a good idea to keep engineers away from customers, romantic interests, and other people
who can’t handle the truth.

Happy Engineer's Day!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can write 70 words per minute but I can't read my own Handwriting.
I spend more time with my teachers Than with my Family.
I know the EULERS's theorem but not my Shirt size.
I have no Life & can Prove it Mathematically.
I can translate English into Binary!
But 40 marks out of 100 is Heaven for me.
My xerox bills are way higher than my mobile bills!
Yes.. I am a student of engineering.

😛
The ideal engineer is a composite...
He is not a scientist, he is not a
mathematician, he is not a
sociologist or a writer; but he may
use the knowledge and techniques of
any or all of these disciplines in
solving engineering problems.

HAPPY ENGINEER's DAY to all!
Engineers participate in the
activities which make the resources of nature
available in a form beneficial
to man and provide systems which
will perform optimally and economically.

Engineer’s Day 2022 Speech

Without an engineer, the world would be like a bike without wheels. Today is the 147th birthday of one of India’s most illustrious sons. Engineers Day is celebrated on September 15th. I’d like to share some fascinating tidbits from the great man’s life with you.

Any state would be fortunate to have Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya as a minister. How many selfless patriots do we have in this country? Every year, titles are bestowed for distinguished servants of the country by Free India. The greatest honour is the ‘Bharata Ratna.’ Visvesvaraya was named a ‘Bharata Ratna,’ or India’s Gem, in 1955. He was the epitome of humanity’s brilliance.

Visvesvaraya had a brilliant mind. Engineers from all over the globe praised the Block System he created, the automated doors he devised to prevent unnecessary excess of water, and the water supply and drainage system he built for the city of Aden. His memory was as impressive as a genius’s. We witnessed how he tamed the Moosa in 1908.

Fifty years later, there was a conversation about the river, and he said something specific. The Government of India dispatched him to Africa in 1906-07 to examine the water supply and drainage systems, and the proposal he produced was successfully implemented in Eden. He was an outstanding engineer in India, as well as the country’s first engineer.

How did Visvesvaraya put his brilliance and exceptional memory to good use? This is the most crucial question. He was never late, and he never squandered a minute. When a minister was three minutes late, MV encouraged him to be on time.

That was his fundamental belief: a guy should execute any task he undertakes systematically. The core of his teaching was that every man should recognise his duty and do his best. He did this in a very open and honest manner, as evidenced by hundreds of examples.

He was quite picky about his clothing until he was confined to his bed. People who came to meet him, even when he was 95, were taken aback by how well-dressed he was. “Remember, your job may simply be to sweep a railway crossing, but it is your responsibility to maintain it so clean that no other crossing in the world is as clean as yours,” he once remarked.

There are a hundred more examples of his work ethic and dedication. As he previously stated, “Laziness is our country’s burden. Everyone appears to be working at first glance. In reality, one man works while the others merely observe him.

‘It appears as though five men are working,’ someone remarked dismissively. However, only one-man operations are possible. There will be one individual who does nothing. One of the men will take a break. Another man will be keeping an eye on them. These three will be aided by still another guy.” It appears to be a situation where everyone is having a good time.

His dams are still operational today, demonstrating his genius, competence, honesty, and commitment. So the 15th of September, Engineer’s Day 2022, is a fitting homage to Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvarayya, India’s finest engineer.

After him, in all directions, attaining his beautiful destiny; via his loving heart and brilliant brain; so that he may finally sleep in peace on April 14, 1962. We miss him constantly, and there has never been another person like him in the world.
