India ended with one gold, two silvers, and four bronze medals in this year’s Olympics.
All six Indian athletes and the men’s hockey team who won medals at the Tokyo Olympics were awarded free flight by Go First and Star Air on Sunday.
Go First, formerly known as GoAir, said that it will provide them with free tickets for the next five years. Star Flight, an Indian regional carrier that connects 13 cities, has announced that the medalists will be given free air travel for the rest of their lives.
India ended with one gold, two silvers, and four bronze medals in this year’s Olympics.
Neeraj Chopra, a javelin thrower, became only the second Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics on Saturday, outpacing the competition by a significant margin to become the country’s first track-and-field medalist.
IndiGo declared that when Mr Chopra won the gold medal on Saturday, he will be given unlimited free travel for a year.
Go First said on Sunday that it will provide free travel to “all medal-winners for the next five years until 2025” to commemorate India’s best-ever haul of seven Olympic medals.
“For the next five years, the seven Olympic medalists Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting), P.V.sindhu (badminton), Lovlina Borgohain (boxing), the men’s hockey team, Ravi Kumar Dahiya (wrestling), Bajrang Punia (wrestling), and gold medalist Neeraj Chopra (javelin throw) will be provided free air travel for any Go First sector,” Go First stated.
Star Air said it will be its “honour to grant our Tokyo Olympic champions a lifetime of free air travel” in a statement released on Sunday.
