For the 14th year in a row, since 2008, Ambani has been the wealthiest Indian, adding $4 billion to his net worth in 2021.

Gautam Adani, the founder of the Adani Group, is currently only $17.9 billion behind Ambani with a wealth of $74.8 billion.

Shiv Nadar, the founder and chairman of HCL Technologies, is ranked third. Nadar has remained in third place, thanks to a $10.6 billion rise in his fortune because to the country’s booming IT sector.

His entire fortune has risen to $31 billion.

Radhakishan Damani remained in fourth place, with his net worth nearly tripling to $29.4 billion from $15.4 billion in the fiscal year ending March, as his grocery chain Avenue Supermarts launched 22 new locations.

Meanwhile, with $18 billion, Savitri Jindal, chairman of the OP Jindal group, has re-entered the top-10 club.

The recovery of India from a fatal second wave of Covid-19, which broke out earlier this year, has re-established investor confidence in the world’s sixth-largest economy.

This year’s list includes six newcomers, half of whom come from the growing chemicals industry.

They include Ashok Boob’s Clean Science and Technology (No. 93, $2.3 billion), Deepak Mehta’s Deepak Nitrite (No. 97, $2.05 billion), and Yogesh Kothari’s Alkyl Amines Chemicals (No. 100, $1.94 billion). Arvind Lal (No. 87, $2.55 billion), the executive chairman of diagnostics chain Dr Lal PathLabs, also made his debut on the list after his company’s stock doubled in the last year due to a pandemic-induced increase in testing.

Given the raised cut-off for earning entrance to this year’s list, eleven listees from previous year dropped off.

This year’s list required a minimum investment of $1.94 billion, up from $1.33 billion last year.
