State Women and Child Development Minister Yashomati Thakur has said that a skill development programme to end child begging will be launched shortly in Maharashtra, and has also promised all assistance to children orphaned as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic.
Ms Thakur made the statement on Saturday in the Jalgaon district after a little child approached her and informed her she made her life through begging.
The minister, who was visiting the districts of Jalgaon and Dhule, voiced his displeasure with the police and expressed worry over the state’s rising problem of child beggars.
“A skill development programme for child and adult beggars has been developed, and its approach will be implemented soon. We must be alert to such concerns since there are gangs of beggars in numerous areas. Begging is a legal offence “Ms Thakur spoke to the press.
Ms Thakur visited children who had been orphaned and made homeless as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic during her visit to Dhule.
She met with government officials to explore how government programmes may assist them.
The minister also offered urgent financial assistance to such youngsters at the time.
Ms Thakur stated, “We need to go beyond government help and policy for orphans.”
She emphasised the need of education, nourishment, and safety for children who have been orphaned as a result of COVID-19.
The government will always be ready to assist youngsters in this situation. The minister stated that immediate action should be made to give these youngsters with different government benefits, including ration cards.
She believes that these youngsters should be counselled on a regular basis.
Problems with their properties should also be investigated right away, she stressed.
