Neeraj Chopra wins historic Gold in the Javelin Throw at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, propelling India above the London Games tally.

On Saturday, Neeraj Chopra made history by being the first Indian to win a gold medal in the Javelin Throw at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. This is the first time India has won a gold medal in field and track events in approximately 121 years. Norman Gilbert Pritchard, a British-Indian athlete, had won a medal in the 1900 Paris Olympics before Neeraj.

The 23-year-first old’s three throws were 87.03m, 87.58m, and 76.79m, respectively, while his fourth and fifth throws were fouled. The sixth and final throw by Neeraj was 84.24 metres.

With Neeraj’s gold medal, the Indian team now has a total of seven medals. The country has already surpassed its six-medal haul from the 2012 London Olympics.

Bajrang Punia (Bronze), Mirabai Chanu (Silver), PV Sindhu (Bronze), Lovlina Borgohain (Bronze), men’s hockey team (Bronze), and Ravi Kumar Dahiya (Silver) have all won medals for India at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Meanwhile, Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic took Silver with an 86.67m best effort, while Vitezslav Vesely of the Czech Republic earned Bronze with an 85.44m best try.

Meanwhile, Neeraj made a splash in the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday, throwing a massive 86.65m and qualifying for the final on his first attempt. Before beginning his Olympic campaign, he had a personal best of 88.07 metres, which was also his season-best.

PM Modi remarked in a tweet that “what Neeraj has accomplished today will be remembered forever.” “Neeraj, a young man, has performed admirably. He played with an incredible amount of heart and intensity. Congratulations on earning the gold, he deserves it “He sent out a tweet.

President Ram Nath Kovind congratulated Neeraj on his victory, calling it “unique,” and said that his javelin gold broke numerous “barriers” and changed the course of history. “In your first Olympics, you deliver India its first-ever track and field medal. Our youngsters will be inspired by your achievement. India is overjoyed! Sincere congratulations, “President Ram Nath Kovind sent out a tweet.

Meanwhile, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur thanked Neeraj on behalf of India’s 135 million citizens, calling him a “great job.” Thakur further stated that Neeraj’s victory will motivate future generations to participate in sports and win more medals for India.

“With the globe facing a COVID-19 pandemic, it was difficult for any athlete, association, or government to prepare for such an occurrence. The Indian government made every effort to transfer athletes abroad and oversee their preparation. I am delighted that India has won the most medals ever “He told ANI news agency.
