NIRF Ranking 2021: IISc Bengaluru Best For Research, IIT Madras Best

On Thursday, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan revealed the NIRF rankings’ sixth edition. Seven IITs were in the top 10 in the overall rankings.

NEW DELHI: According to the Ministry of Education’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras retained its top spot among institutes across India for the third year in a row, while the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru was the best among research institutions.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan unveiled the sixth edition of the NIRF rankings on Thursday. Seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) ranked in the top ten in the overall rankings: IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee.

Jawaharlal Nehru University and Banaras Hindu University were ranked ninth and tenth, respectively, in the overall rankings. IISc Bengaluru took first place in the universities category, followed by JNU and BHU in second and third place, respectively. The following universities in the universities category were Calcutta University, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Jamia Millia Islamia, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Jadavpur University, University of Hyderabad, and Aligarh Muslim University.

“Rankings are used to evaluate the quality and excellence of an institution. We must create regional ranking frameworks and seek to ensure that our ranking system becomes a benchmark not only in the United States, but also internationally, particularly for emerging countries “Pradhan said.

The top eight engineering institutions are Madras, Delhi, Bombay, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Guwahati, and Hyderabad. The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirapalli and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Suratkal were rated ninth and tenth in the category, respectively.

Miranda House has been named the best college in the country, with Lady Sri Ram College for Women and Loyola College, Chennai coming in second and third, respectively. The fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh places went to St Xavier’s College in Kolkata, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira in Howrah, PGSR Krishnammal College for Women in Coimbatore, and Presidency College in Chennai, respectively.

St Stephen’s College, Hindu College, and Shri Ram College of Commerce of Delhi University have been rated eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively.

IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta were ranked first, second, and third among the country’s B-Schools, accordingly.

The leading pharmacy school is Jamia Hamdard in Delhi, followed by Panjab University in Chandigarh and the Birla Institute of Science and Technology (BITS) in Pilani. AIIMS, Delhi took first place in the medical colleges category, followed by PGIMER Chandigarh and Christian Medical College, Vellore.

Teaching, Learning, and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception are the five major categories of characteristics used to assess universities (PR). The total amount of marks awarded for each of these five major categories of criteria is used to assign ranks.
