NEW DELHI: According to a statement released by the institution on Thursday, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) was ranked sixth among the country’s “Top 10 Universities” in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)-2021.
Last year, the institution was ranked tenth. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan revealed the 2021 rankings earlier on Thursday. “This success is all the more noteworthy given the difficult time the country and university have gone through as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the heightened competitiveness in the rankings,” stated JMI Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar.
She credited the success to “high-quality, relevant research and teaching by the institution’s dedicated and devoted faculty members,” as well as “better perceptions of the university in terms of teaching, placements, and research.”
NIRF is a technique used by the Ministry of Education to rate higher education institutions in the country. It is now in its sixth edition. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras was named the best institute in the country this year, while the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru was named the finest research institute.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad was named the finest business school, and Jamia Hamdard was named the best pharmacy school. In the colleges category, Miranda House in Delhi earned top place, followed by Lady Sri Ram College for Women in Delhi and Loyola College in Chennai.
According to the NIRF rankings, AIIMS Delhi is the best medical school in the country, followed by PGIMER Chandigarh and Christian Medical College, Vellore.
