Pooja Kadam UPSC: The coveted civil services examination 2020 was passed by 761 applicants, with engineering graduates Shubham Kumar, an IIT Bombay graduate, taking top place.
Latur: Pooja Kadam, 30, from Latur, Maharashtra, was one of the 761 individuals who passed the UPSC civil services test 2020 on Friday, despite having just 15% vision.
Kadam, from Taka village in Ausa tehsil, was ranked 577th in the tests, which she took for the second time.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Fergusson College in Pune and a master’s degree in Political Science from Indira Gandhi National Open University in Delhi.
Kadam is the youngest of four sisters, and her father works as a schoolteacher in the hamlet.
On Friday, the Union Public Service Commission released the results of the test, which is held every year to pick IAS, IFS, and IPS officials, as well as other public workers.
Engineering graduates Shubham Kumar, an IIT Bombay graduate, and Jagrati Awasthi, who finished B.Tech (electrical engineering) from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal, took top and second place, respectively, in the coveted civil services test 2020.
Nilesh Gaikwad, a candidate from Latur, Maharashtra, who placed 629th in the UPSC 2020 examinations, ascribed his achievement to hard work and self-confidence.
“Continuous study, self-confidence, hard effort, and perseverance are crucial to success,” said Gaikwad, an IIT Bombay alumnus who had previously completed the UPSC examinations and was undergoing training as an “assistant defence controller.”
He praised his parents, Dr. Shrikant Gaikwad, a former principal, his mother, Professor Anita Gaikwad, and his brother, Shailesh, as well as his instructors, for helping him pass such a difficult and competitive test.
Last year, the civil services (preliminary) test for 2020 was held on October 4th.
According to a UPSC statement, a total of 10,40,060 applicants applied for the exam, with 4,82,770 showing up.
It claimed that a total of 10,564 candidates qualified for the written (primary) examination in January 2021, and that 2,053 of them qualified for the personality test (interview), from which 761 were ultimately picked.
