QS Rankings 2025: IIT Delhi Tops India, Surpassing IIT Bombay

The QS World University Rankings 2025 spotlight India’s rise in higher education across Asia, with notable institutions climbing the ranks and showcasing high academic and employer reputation scores.

IIT Delhi Secures Top Position for India

In a landmark achievement, IIT Delhi has become India’s top institution, surpassing IIT Bombay in the QS Rankings. Moving up from last year’s 46th place to 44th, IIT Delhi boasts an impressive employer reputation score of 99%. Following closely, IIT Bombay has secured the 48th position with a remarkable employer reputation score of 99.5% and an academic reputation score of 96.6%.

Significant Climbers Among Indian Universities

One of the most notable improvements comes from the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), which rose by 70 spots to 148th place, marking the highest leap among Indian institutions. Other prominent universities also advanced in their rankings, reflecting the country’s growing emphasis on educational quality and global reputation.

Top 100 Indian Institutions in QS Rankings 2025

This year’s rankings saw two Indian institutions placed within the top 50 and seven within the top 100. Leading universities include:

  • IIT Madras: 56th position
  • IIT Kharagpur: 60th position
  • Indian Institute of Science (IISc): 62nd position
  • IIT Kanpur: 67th position
  • University of Delhi: 81st position, a rise from 94th last year

High Scores in Research and Faculty Indicators

Several Indian institutions scored impressively across various metrics:

  • Anna University: Achieved a perfect score of 100 in the “Papers Per Faculty” indicator, underscoring its high research output.
  • University of Delhi: Scored 96.4% in the “International Research Network” indicator, highlighting its global academic engagement.

Additionally, around 15 universities surpassed the 99% mark in the “Staff with PhD” indicator, showcasing India’s commitment to maintaining high standards of education.

Excellence in Faculty-Student Ratio

North Eastern Hill University and the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore achieved a perfect score of 100 in the “Faculty-Student Ratio” indicator, reflecting their focus on providing top-tier academic credibility.
