The Elon Musk Effect: How the Richest Man in the World Affects American Democracy

Elon Musk US Election 2024: Musk has previously donated to both Democrats and Republicans, but this time he has spent an incredible $119 million to rally Trump’s followers.

How much power does the wealthiest guy in the world have over one of the oldest democracies in the world? The elections next week will be a test of Elon Musk’s impact on American democracy in addition to Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

Elon Musk US Election 2024

While Musk had previously made small donations to both Democrats and Republicans, including $5,000 to Hillary Clinton in 2016, he has now spent an astounding $119 million to rally Trump’s fans and has been using his social media platform, X, to disseminate pro-Trump messaging. He recently revealed his “Dark gothic MAGA” side and is a significant presence at Trump rallies in key battleground states.

Musk’s engagement has come under fire, especially after he failed to show up for a hearing in a lawsuit involving his attempts to donate millions to registered voters, a tactic that analysts compare to vote buying.

Due to SpaceX’s contracts with NASA and the Department of Defense, he is also being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission and has reportedly communicated with Russian President Vladimir Putin on a regular basis, which raises worries about national security.

In addition to being the center of attention in the fields of politics, business, and international relations, he is currently in charge of America PAC, a super PAC that supports Trump’s campaign to increase turnout. Musk hired new advisors despite early difficulties, and the figures appear to have improved. Republican insiders, however, doubt the PAC’s ability to use a ground game in crucial areas like Georgia.

Musk has brought in private sector associates like Steve Davis of the Boring company because he is frustrated with his PAC. Additionally, if Trump wins, the regulatory obstacles that his companies—especially Tesla—face might be lessened.

“Elon has a lot of roles he could take,” Trump said on Fox News. There are serious conflict of interest issues with the former president’s suggestion that Musk would be involved in his future administration, which would concentrate on government efficiency.
