UGC has also decided that no exception request for JRF scholars registered on or before December 31, 2018 will be entertained after December 31, 2024
The deadline for claiming the outstanding balance has been extended by the University Grants Commission (UGC) until January 8, 2025. Following candidate representation, the commission made its conclusion.
“UGC has received several representations to extend the last date for claiming pending dues. It has, therefore, been decided to extend the last date up to 8th January 2025,” read the latest notice.
The commission requested that interested parties use the Scholarship Fellowship Management Portal (SFMP) to claim any outstanding fellowship, home rent, or contingency payments.
Additionally, UGC has determined that after December 31, 2024, no requests for exceptions would be considered with regard to scholars who registered or joined as Junior Research Fellowships (JRFs) on or before December 31, 2018. According to the commission, on January 1, 2025, the option for these scholars to submit an exception request through the fellowship administration portal would be eliminated.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) was informed in September by UGC that the dues claim deadline would be extended. The union brought a large delegation to the commission’s office, requesting that JRF fellowships be paid out on time and that the period for claiming unpaid arrears be extended past October 8.
