UGC-NET June 2025 Registration: The registration process for UGC-NET June 2025 is now underway, offering eligible candidates the opportunity to qualify for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professorship, and PhD admissions. The University Grants Commission – National Eligibility Test is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and serves as a gateway to academic and research careers in Indian universities and colleges.

The online application window opened on April 16, 2025, and will remain active until May 7, 2025. Candidates must submit their examination fees by May 8, while the application correction window will be open from May 9 to May 10. The exam is tentatively scheduled to be held from June 21 to June 30, 2025, in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

UGC-NET June 2025: Application Process and Important Instructions

Applicants must visit the official website ugcnet.nta.ac.in to fill out and submit the application form. It is important to note that only one application per candidate is permitted, and all forms must be submitted online—applications in any other format will not be accepted.

Candidates are advised to carefully read the information bulletin available on the NTA website and follow all the listed instructions. Non-compliance could lead to disqualification. Additionally, the email ID and mobile number used during registration should belong to the candidate or their immediate guardian, as all official communication from NTA will be shared through these registered details.

Exam Structure, Mode, and Subject Breakdown

The UGC-NET June 2025 exam will be conducted exclusively in CBT mode and will span a total duration of 180 minutes, with no break between Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers will comprise objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and are compulsory for all candidates.

Paper 1

  • Total Questions: 50
  • Maximum Marks: 100
  • Purpose: Tests general teaching/research aptitude, reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness.

Paper 2

  • Total Questions: 100
  • Maximum Marks: 200
  • Purpose: Subject-specific paper based on the domain selected by the candidate. It evaluates in-depth knowledge of the subject area.

Each question in both papers carries 2 marks, with no negative marking for incorrect answers. Candidates are encouraged to attempt all questions, as unanswered or review-marked questions do not carry penalties.

If a question is later deemed ambiguous or incorrect, full marks will be awarded to candidates who selected one of the correct answers. For dropped or invalid questions, 2 marks will be granted to all who attempted them.

Eligibility Categories and Opportunities Through UGC-NET

The UGC-NET exam qualifies candidates for three main categories:

  1. Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professorship, and PhD Admission
  2. Assistant Professorship and PhD Admission (without JRF)
  3. PhD Admission Only

Candidates qualifying under the first category will be eligible for a fellowship and teaching positions, subject to fulfilling additional selection criteria at respective institutions. Those qualifying for the “Assistant Professor and PhD” track are not eligible for JRF, while those who qualify for “PhD only” will not be eligible for either JRF or Assistant Professorship.

The admission to PhD programmes will also involve an interview stage, as per the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations, 2022.
