Student Credit card West Bengal apply online 2022: The Student Credit Card Scheme, launched by the West Bengal government’s higher education department, enables students to take a soft loan of up to Rs 10 lakh for higher studies.
About West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme 2022
The Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal has introduced the Student Credit Card Scheme for the students of West Bengal to enable them to pursue education without having any financial constraints.
This scheme is designed to support the students to pursue secondary, higher secondary, madrasah, undergraduate, and postgraduate studies including professional degrees and other equivalent courses in any School, Madrasah, College, University, and other affiliated institutes within and outside India.
Students studying in various coaching institutions for appearing in different competitive examinations like Engineering, Medical, Law, IAS, IPS, WBCS, etc, can also avail of the loan under this scheme.
A student from West Bengal can obtain a maximum loan of Rs. 10 lakhs @ 4% per annum with simple interest from the State Cooperative Bank and its affiliated Central Cooperative Banks and District Central Cooperative Banks and Public/ Private Sector Banks.
1% interest concession will be provided to the borrower if the interest is fully serviced during the study period.
The upper age limit for the interested students has been kept at 40(forty) years at the time of applying for a loan.
The repayment period shall be fifteen (15) years for any loan availed under this Credit Card including the Moratorium/ repayment holiday.

WHO IS IT FOR?
The Student Credit Card Scheme is intended to assist students pursuing secondary, higher secondary, undergraduate, and postgraduate education. Professional degrees and other equivalent courses can be obtained from any school, madrasa, college, university, or another affiliated institute in India or abroad.
Students enrolled in various coaching institutions can apply for a loan to help them prepare for competitive exams such as engineering, medical, law, and civil service exams.
Student Credit Card West Bengal Eligibility
Applicants seeking loans under the scheme must be Indian nationals and residents of West Bengal for the past 10 years.
Students from Class X to those up to 40 years of age are eligible to apply for the scheme.
LOAN AMOUNT & INTEREST RATE
A student can get a soft loan of up to Rs 10 lakh at a simple interest of 4% per annum from the State Cooperative Bank, its affiliated Central Cooperative Banks, District Central Cooperative Banks and public/ private sector banks.
HOW AND WHEN TO REPAY
- · Repayment period for any loan availed under this credit card will be 15 years, including the moratorium/ repayment holiday.
- · The student or a parent/ legal guardian can repay the loan amount any time before the stipulated period of repayment. There will be no penalty or processing fee in case of early repayment.
- · The borrower will get a 1% concession in interest if they have fully used the interest during their study period.

Important Points Before Applying For West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme 2022
- Student Credit Card/loans cannot be applied for future courses. Admission receipt is to be uploaded while applying.
For example, if a student is presently studying in Class XII and he proposes to study management in the future, he cannot apply for a loan considering /the clubbing course fee of management courses.
At present, he has to apply for a loan considering his course fee of Class XII only. For future courses, he has to apply for a fresh credit card after admission to that particular course.
- The students cannot apply for credit card loans considering their course fees at the regular institute as well as the coaching institute fee clubbed.
- The loan cannot be applied for the course fees or admission fees etc which have already been paid to the institution. Fees to be paid in the future for the running course only are to be mentioned. There is no reimbursement system in this scheme.

The West Bengal government has asked the school, college, and university authorities to hold camps every Monday to promote the credit card scheme, and has directed the education department to send a report on the number of students who visit these locations.
According to reports, more than 1,20,000 applications were submitted through the program until December 14th, with 50,000 of them being sent to banks for approval. Approximately 6,000 applications have been accepted by banks so far.
Some applications were turned down and sent back to the district offices. H K Dwivedi, the Chief Secretary, has already directed officials to form a committee in each district to deal with loan denials.
