NEW DELHI: The Common Admission Test is being held this year at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad (CAT). Apart from IIMs, the CAT exam 2021 result will be accepted by over 1000 MBA colleges for admission to various postgraduate management programmes. It is one of the most popular management entrance exams, with more than 2 lakh applicants taking it each year. On November 28, CAT 2021 will be held as a computer-based test (CBT). The degree of competitiveness is understandable given the thousands of management candidates vying for a few hundred places at IIMs and other MBA programmes. However, with proper CAT preparation and exam-taking strategy, one can achieve a 99+ percentile on the IIM CAT.
Questions from three parts will be included in the CAT 2021 question paper: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), and Quantitative Ability (QA). According to previous year’s pattern, students will be given 40 minutes for each part, with a total of 76 questions, including 54 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and 22 non-MCQs (TITA) questions.
CAT 2021: Preparation strategy for August month
If you only have four months to prepare for CAT 2021, you should make a CAT study strategy and stick to it. This simplifies their CAT exam preparation and stress management. Here are some pointers to keep in mind as you prepare for the IIM CAT this month.
Identify where you stand today
- Before beginning CAT 2021 preparation, applicants should assess whether their fundamentals are clear and solid, as well as their existing position. Are they able to readily comprehend the verbal comprehension or do they know the essential formulas for solving quantitative questions? Students can also take a CAT practise exam to see where they stand now and how much and where they need to prepare.
- Candidates can determine which topics/areas have the best accuracy ratio and which ones need improvement after evaluating this data and begin preparing for them.
Understanding of concepts and their application
- After going over the CAT exam format and syllabus, students should go over each topic one by one and begin their CAT preparation. The candidates will be able to obtain ideological clarity and build their base as a result of this.
- If you know the foundations, you should begin your CAT preparation section by section and at a rapid pace so that you finish the entire CAT exam syllabus by mid-September. Following that, candidates should concentrate on taking as many CAT 2021 practise tests as possible in order to enhance their timing, accuracy, and speed.
Strategy for the CAT Quantitative Aptitude section
- The quantitative aptitude section is the most important part of the CAT prep. The CAT quant course is extensive, including everything from mathematics to percentages, among other topics. In the CAT exam, the Quant section examines a candidate’s fundamentals.
- Without a calculator, one can design shortcuts to solve CAT exam quant questions rapidly, and one should also have additional formulas on hand. This will aid candidates in rapidly and properly answering quant problems on the CAT 2021. Candidates can keep a running list of formulas, methods, and shortcuts to solve these questions and revise them as needed.
Strategies for CAT DILR section
- Because there is no uniform curriculum for data interpretation and logical reasoning, this portion is more difficult than the others. If you’re adept at solving puzzles, you’ll have no trouble with the logical reasoning segment.
- Those who are new with DILR questions should practise with previous year’s papers and typical templates, such as einstein puzzles and grid puzzles.
Focus on self-study
- When it comes to any exam, self-preparation is crucial. Knowing where he or she stands, expecting, and acting accordingly is the best aspect of self-preparation. While self-studying for the CAT 2021 exam, one can undertake the following.
- Take a look at the class notes.
- The textbook should be read.
- Make clear and colourful notes.
- Look for other internet resources.
- Teach what you’ve learned to someone else.
CAT Mock test, its analysis, and revision- An elixir
- If you haven’t taken the practise tests, your CAT preparation is considered incomplete. Candidates must use CAT mock tests, CAT sample papers, and previous year questions papers to grasp the format, type of questions asked in the exam, and difficulty level of the CAT entrance exam.
- The CAT practise exams should be thoroughly examined and used as a guide for CAT exam preparation. Concentrate on places where you took longer to answer, where you were unsure, or where you had no idea.
